Fundraising Campaigns of the Mosque
Fundraising Campaigns of the Mosque
Here are our few fundraising campaigns and initiative which you can contribute towards
Alhambra Donors Wall
Al Hambra Donors Wall is a permanent feature of the Maryam Centre inspired by the beautiful Islamic art found in Alhambra Palace in Grenada, Spain. As part of the ownership of the new Maryam Centre and to become part of history, donations of £1,500 or more will be acknowledged, on a tile which will make up the Alhambra Donors Wall, with the name of the donor, of a deceased family member, a loved one (max 30 characters).
You can help the new Maryam Centre buy donating £1500 for an outer tile or £3500 for an inner tile. Only the last few tiles remain which have not been pledged for.
Visit the Alhambra Donors Wall
The Alhambra donors wall starts on the ground floor of the new Maryam Centre. Work has started to place the names of donors on the Alhambra Wall, which will eventually be sealed off permanently with a glass fixture to protect the wall.
You will be pleased to know that we have 6 individuals (Shaynul Khan, Fokrul Amin, Salman Farsi, Juber Hussain, Tozommul Ali & Tawheed Kamaly) who will be doing a Skydive challenge. It’s a new fundraising initiative which will bring another dimension in raising money. The Skydive will take place on Saturday 7th March 2015.
These reluctant participants who have agreed to embark on this brave initiative to help raise money for the East London Mosque. We have set a target of £500 each to be raised from sponsorship. This is a great way for you, your family, colleagues and friends to get involved and raise funds to help the mosque become debt free, insha'Allah.
Please help them to meet their target and sponsor whatever you can, even a small amount whether its £20, £10 or even £5. Your generosity and support are truly appreciated. If they do not meet their target, we will send them up without a parachute J
Those who spend their wealth (in Allah’s way) by night and by day, secretly and publicly – they will have their reward with their Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.
The aim of this campaign is to remind people about the virtues of Friday by using various Hadith sourced from authentic narrations, as well as encouraging people to donate as they leave from Jumu’ah.
Currently, collection buckets are the main source of Friday donations, and we wish to expand and diversify to different methods of collecting donations during the peak times at the Mosque and Centre is used.
There’s no need to miss charity on Friday!
Don’t have any cash? No problem – now you can make your Friday donation simply by texting from your mobile phone or set up a weekly standing order.

Standing Order Campaign
Running and sustaining a Mosque is a difficult and arduous task. The Mosque, being a non-profit organisation is financed mainly from donations. Public donations are very important to ensure the well-being of the Mosque in terms of meeting its operational costs and maintenance. We need your help financially to continue spreading the message of Islam. Our Mosque is a registered charitable organisation. We do not receive any funding apart from generous donations from persons such as yourselves and the success is with Allah.

Gift to the Mosque
We as a Mosque & Centre play an active and dynamic role in the community. Religion is an integral part of daily lives for Muslims. The role of the Mosque has always been instrumental in the social, moral and educational uplift of the Muslim community.
This initiative is a one-off gift donation of £100 to the mosque.
Visitor & Exhibition Centre
We have non-Muslims visitors almost every day of the week. The Visitor and Exhibition Centre will be a dedicated space in the new Maryam Centre. It’s a perfect place for non-Muslims to observe Islamic prayers and learn about Islam. It will be available every day of the week, with a gallery overlooking the new prayer hall, a permanent exhibition about Islam and hospitality facilities. This new space will allow the Mosque to have an even greater impact when bringing the message of Islam to non-Muslim in Britain. We need your support to establish this project.
You can donate £250.00 towards the installation of exhibition and other materials.
Islamic Will - Leave a Legacy
Making a Will is something we put at the back of our minds because we don’t want to think about the inevitable. However, having an Islamic Will is essential for a Muslim living in a non-Muslim country to ensure that your wealth is distributed as prescribed in the Qur’an. Unnecessary family disputes can often be avoided if you make a Will. We are working in partnership with 1st Ethical Charitable Trust to bring awareness to the community of the importance of having an Islamic Will.
What is an Islamic Will and the importance of it?
The Islamic will is called al-wasiyya. A Will is a transaction which comes into operation after the testator’s death. The Will is executed after payment of funeral expenses and any outstanding debts. The one who makes a will (wasiyya) is called a testator (al-musi). The one on whose behalf a Will is made is generally referred to as a legatee (al-musa lahu). Technically speaking the term ‘testatee’ is perhaps a more accurate translation of al-musa lahu.
The importance of having an Islamic Will is clear from the following hadith:
"It is the duty of a Muslim who has anything to bequest not to let two nights pass without writing a Will about it."
Why I should choose the East London Mosque?
Apart from the religious obligation, it is also beneficial for you and gain ongoing reward of Sadaqah Jariyah that can benefit the community. If you'd like to discuss leaving a legacy to East London Mosque then please do get in touch with us.

Give As You Earn (GAYE)
Payroll Giving or Give As You Earn (GAYE) is a simple, efficient and flexible scheme, which allows you to donate to the Mosque by a deduction from your wage. All donations given in this way are tax-free so the Mosque receives your donation and the tax you would have paid on this amount. This is a fantastic way to donate to the Mosque.
What are the benefits of Payroll Giving or Give As you Earn?
• You can give to any charity
• A regular income for the Mosque
• A confidential, easy and tax-efficient service
• No extra paperwork for the Mosque, we’ll receive your donation and tax in one go
• A flexible scheme which allows you to change, alter the amount given or stop giving
whenever you wish
A £20 donation will cost you £16 – but the Mosque will still receive £20 because the £4 which would have otherwise gone to the tax man goes to the Mosque.

Purchase of Synagogue Building
The East London Mosque would like to thank everyone for their generous support to buy the unused Fieldgate Street Synagogue building. Alhamdulillah, you will be pleased to know we completed the purchase within the deadline on the 15th July 2015.
A majority of the funds required were raised through the Channel S live fundraiser and during the last ten nights of Ramadan at the Mosque:
Loans (Qard Hasanah)
Please continue to donate so we can repay the loans (Qard Hasanah). We asked everyone to try to be part of this by contributing at least £100, or whatever you can afford.
No decision has been made about how the site will be redeveloped. Ideas are being gathered. Initial ideas are for a balanced development that fits with ELM ethos and history, which include community use, preservation of heritage, interfaith use - as well as to help generate income for the Mosque’s sustainability and its debt repayment.
This was an unexpected blessing for our community given to us by Allah in the month of Ramadan. The response and support from the community has once again been incredible, and we take this opportunity to thank each and every person who donated towards this cause.
