Tan Sri Dato’ Azman Mokhtar, the highly successful managing director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad (the Malaysian government’s strategic investment fund), visited the London Muslim Centre on 27 Feb 2013 to deliver a speech on ‘Managing Leadership in a Changing World’. The visit was arranged by Iqbal Khan, CEO of Fajr Capital (an international Islamic investment firm), an important architect of Islamic finance throughout the world.

As the leader of a company that manages a fund of 40 billion USD, Tan Sri Dato’ Azman Mokhtar was able to highlight key areas of leadership, and showed how the leadership model of Prophet Muhammad inspires him in his work. He drew analogies between good leadership, successful parenting and the development of a human being in stages. He explained how leadership needs to grow and develop over time, how a leader needs to remain rooted, and how a successful leader is one who moves aside to allow succession.

The talk was followed by a question and answer session, then Tan Sri Dato’ Azman Mokhtar was taken to see the new Maryam Centre which is due to be completed later this year.
