The brutal murder of Alan Henning, an aid worker who wished to help the Syrian people is utterly deplorable. This tragic news comes on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha, when Muslims around the world prepare to remember the many mercies of God on humanity.

This act of violence by the group ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) towards an innocent individual can never be justified. Muslims in Britain are appalled by the actions of ISIL and completely reject this brutality. The loss of Alan’s life and his remarkable act of generosity will be remembered by Muslims and the world.

As we mentioned in a previous statement: “It is deceitful for the group to refer to itself as the “Islamic State”; its actions are far from the teachings of Islam. IS[IL] resorts to violence against the innocent, and kills indiscriminately.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Alan and his family.
