On Saturday 20th August 2016 the East London Mosque held its fourth annual football tournament. 21 teams took part from all over London and all played on top form, battling it out to reach the finals. Over 147 players from diverse backgrounds, including non-Muslims, helped to ensure the tournament was a great success.

This exciting and keenly fought competition culminated in a tense final between Al-Huda FC and The Family. It was thrilling game, with Al-Huda FC emerging as winners. Teams Dynamo Kebab and Aqwa United also played well to reach the semi-finals. Congratulations to Al-Huda FC, and to all the other teams for their incredible efforts!

Senior Fundraising Officer, Tozommul Ali, commented, “This tournament is always great fun and very competitive, with new teams taking part each year. I thank all the volunteers and sponsors for their incredible support, it would not have been possible without them.”

Muhammad Didar, a volunteer of the Mosque, along with Manik Miah from the Bangladesh Football Association helped organise the tournament, which attracted many spectators to cheer the teams on at Mile End Leisure Centre’s Football Astroturf.

Abdul Mumin Yahya, another volunteer of the Mosque, welcomed the teams at the beginning and thanked the teams for taking part. Prizes were handed out to the winners by Ayub Khan, Honorary Secretary of the East London Mosque Trust, who congratulated all the teams for their tremendous efforts in fundraising for the Mosque & Centre.
