News & Islam News Honorary Fellowship for Chairman Wednesday, 16 July 2008 - We would like to congratulate our chairman, Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari MBE, on being made an Honorary Fellow of Queen Mary, University of London at a graduation ceremony held on Wednesday 16 July 2008. Nigel Relph, Director of Corporate Affairs said, “There can be few people who have made such a substantial contribution to addressing one of the key issues facing contemporary Britain as Dr Bari. His numerous leadership roles in the Muslim community have put him at the forefront of debate about how Muslim values and other British values can be mediated, and he is seen by all who have contact with him as a voice of moderation and reason. We regard him as a friend here at Queen Mary as Chair of the East London Mosque and as one of the most important community voices in this part of London.” Accepting the Fellowship, Dr Abdul Bari said, “I feel my duty is much wider, to serve the people around me, whatever their background. I firmly believe, no section of our nation can achieve justice and fair-play in isolation. We are co-travellers in this critical journey together… This honour is equally shared by all my colleagues, affiliates and others in the Muslim Council of Britain and East End of London.” The East London Mosque Trust is delighted that Dr Abdul Bari’s hard work is being recognised in the wider community.
