Today Al-Mizan School & London East Academy celebrated the journey of 12 students to complete the memorisation of the Holy Qur’an.

Over the last two years of the pandemic, having faced disruption to their learning, they had to wait to be formally recognised for their huge efforts.

Iqbal khan from the Barakah Khan Foundation, named after his late daughter, was present to congratulate this year’s Huffaz. As he has done for many years, he honoured our Huffaz with gifts as part of what is now known as the Barakah Khan Huffaz Award.

He addressed the Huffaz graduates, saying, “Knowing the Qur’an brings a huge responsibility on us. The first one is that we should follow in the footsteps of the Prophet ﷺ and follow his Sunnah. I remind myself first, and all the Huffaz, that we should have the best of Akhlaq [character]. Once we have memorised the Qur’an, we have the responsibility to become role models in our schools, our colleges, our universities and in our society – we should all aspire to become a walking and talking Qur’an.”

Hussain Shefaar, Chair of the Governing Body for Al-Mizan & London East Academy, reminded the Huffaz to be ‘Shakir’ (thankful), firstly to Allah SWT, then to all those who have played a vital role in supporting them to graduate as Huffaz including the parents and teachers. He further thanked Iqbal khan for continuously supporting this initiative as a sponsor.

The Huffaz of 2022 captivated the audience of over 200 people with beautiful recitations from the Holy Qur’an. They recited the last portions of their memorisation task. One of our parents said, “May Allah SWT reward all the Ustadhs for the hard work in producing these Huffaz and keeping Allah’s SWT factory running. I’ve had the best day and experience of my life, Alhamdulillah!”

The mother of Yahya Hussain, who finished memorisation of the holy Qur’an whilst in Year 6 at Al-Mizan, reflected saying, “In 2013, my eldest son, Younus Rahman, joined Al-Mizan School from Year 4 to start his Hifz journey. In 2015, by the Grace of Allah, Younus completed his Qur’an and successfully graduated. In 2016, when my younger child, Yahya joined Al-Mizan School to embark on the same Hifz journey, the enlightenment of joy came back into my heart again, Alhamdulillah. By the mercy of Allah, Yahya completed his memorisation in 2020 to become a Hafiz of the Qur’an.”

Shaykh Abdul Qayum, Head Imam of the East London Mosque, concluded the event with a brief address to the Huffaz and a final Dua. The Huffaz and their families & relatives, the schools’ staff, and our guests enjoyed a dinner together after the event. May Allah bless all of our Huffaz, their families and all those associated. Ameen.
