On World Refugee Day, 20 June 2024, the East London Mosque reaffirms its commitment to supporting and empowering refugees within our community. As part of our ongoing efforts, we are delighted to announce that in the spirit of Eid Al-Adha, we will be hosting a special event with our partners on 26 June 2024 after Zuhr prayer to distribute meals prepared with Qurbani meat to our refugee brothers and sisters.

Junaid Ahmed, CEO of the East London Mosque, commented:

World Refugee Day serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by refugees worldwide. We remain committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all, and our Eid Al-Adha event is a testament to this commitment. Together, we can foster a sense of belonging and help refugees rebuild their lives.

The East London Mosque has a longstanding history of assisting migrants, and since the pandemic we have been actively supporting families through our Refugee Hub. Our dedicated volunteers provide essential services such as food packs, clothes, mobile phones, free haircuts, and emotional and spiritual support to those in need.

In partnership with Islamic Relief, we will provide meals made with Qurbani meat to needy families struggling with the cost-of-living crisis. A talented chef has been hired to prepare the meals, ensuring that our refugee community can enjoy the festivities. Additionally, through the generous donations from Islamic Relief, we will be distributing toys to children, bringing joy and happiness during this blessed occasion.

With Eid Al-Adha and World Refugee Day occurring just days apart this year, Sufia Alam, Head of Programmes at the East London Mosque, emphasised the importance of extending the spirit of the Islamic celebration:

As Muslims, it is our duty to share the blessings of Eid Al-Adha. We are particularly excited to welcome refugees to our home, the East London Mosque. This gesture exemplifies the spirit of unity and compassion that defines our faith.
