London, UK, Saturday 10th April 2021: The East London Mosque Trust and Muntada Aid are launching a project to provide 200 hot meals to impoverished families affected by COVID-19, as well as hot Iftar* meals for doctors in the Royal London Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to break their fast during the month of Ramadan.

Working with local homeless charities, the project aims to help reduce stress and anxiety among individuals and families who are suffering from food insecurity.

Hamid Azad, CEO of Muntada Aid, said about the project, “Last year, seeing the growing need for food banks, Muntada Aid started its COVID Emergency Campaign, and we were able to help thousands of people during the height of the pandemic in the United Kingdom.  Unfortunately, many people are still using these food banks, and that is why this Ramadan, Muntada Aid is partnering with the East London Mosque Trust to provide meals to those in need. We are also glad to be supporting the work of the amazing NHS staff, especially the ICU staff.”

Dilowar Khan, Director of the East London Mosque & London Muslim Centre, added: “Serving the community is part of the very essence of Islamic etiquette and we, at the East London Mosque, view these food packs as an essential service for many impoverished and vulnerable families who’ve been severely affected by the COVID pandemic. It’s an honour to partner up with Muntada Aid to deliver this vital service to those who need it most in the community.”
