24 Oct 2021 – The 9th Annual Muslim Charity Run, organised by the East London Mosque & London Muslim Centre, was held today in Victoria Park.

Over 500 runners took part in the annual charity fun run, raising thousands of pounds for 20 charities. Whilst the morning started off cloudy, the sun came out just in time before runners set off.

Runners covered the 5km course and took part in the fun run in six age category groups. Trophies were presented to the fastest runners from each age group, and all participants received medals.

First to complete the course was Mazeen Abdu. Winners in each of the age groups were presented with trophies by Mayor John Biggs:

  • Under 12s: Abdul Waheed (25:05)
  • 13–17: Ahmed Adayyan (24:15)
  • 18–24: Mazeen Abdu (20:30)
  • 25–34: Atif Hossain (22:42)
  • 35–50: Abdul Tahid (22:00)
  • 51+: Murshed Ahmed (22:55)

Shaykh Abdul Qayum, Head Imam of the East London Mosque, congratulated all those who participated in the prize-giving ceremony and encouraged community members to maintain good health.

Dilowar Khan, Director of the East London Mosque, said:

“It was great to see the community come together, young and old, after a tough time last year due to the pandemic. We have all learned to overcome challenges together, and I hope members of the community will stay psychically active and fit to look after their health.”

Tozommul Ali, Fundraising Manager for the Mosque, added:

“Thousands of pounds have been raised for worthy causes today that will help people far and beyond. Today’s event highlights the importance of the Muslim Charity Run in our community and how we can all come together to help others. Of course, this would never have been possible without our sponsors, volunteers and staff, so I thank them all.”

We would like to take this opportunity to thank and acknowledge all our sponsors and supporters: LaunchGood, Al-Khair Foundation, Human Relief Foundation, Hashmats Health ltd, Help Yateem, British Islamic Medical Association, Reconnecting Our Community Through Kindness and East London Cardiovascular Disease Prevention.
