23 Feb 2021 – After consulting with our Imams, scholars as well as medical experts, we are pleased to announce that the East London Mosque will re-open just for congregational prayers from Wednesday 24 February 2021. Prayer times are available on our website.

Many other London mosques plan to re-open in the coming days. We will all continue to monitor COVID-19 data for London, as well as Government advice.

COVID-19 pandemic precautions

Everyone entering the Mosque must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Wear a face-mask at all times, covering both mouth and nose
  • Do Wudu (ablutions) before coming to the Mosque
  • Bring your own prayer mat and shoe bag
  • The Mosque will open 15 minutes before the congregational prayer and will close straight after prayer
  • No entry for children under the age of 12
  • No one with underlying health issues or COVID-like symptoms should come to the Mosque

Vaccinations

In line with our consultation with Islamic scholars and medical experts, we encourage all who are offered the vaccine to take it without delay.

Our Head Imam, Shaykh Abdul Qayum, who is still recovering from COVID-19, said:

This pandemic has been a trial for humanity, but Allah reassures us in the Qur’an that after hardship comes ease. I have listened carefully to the advice of Muslim medical experts. Let us take the vaccine when it is offered to us, and pray that insha’Allah it brings us the benefit we seek. Our thoughts and prayers are with the many people who have lost loved ones, and we are grateful for the dedication and commitment of NHS and frontline workers who are helping those afflicted by COVID-19.

The Charity Challenge!

Do something positive for your body, mind and fitness by taking part in the East London Mosque’s virtual Charity Challenge for March 2021. We want everyone to stay fit and healthy, but also support the Mosque at the same time. The whole family can take part!

It has been an extremely difficult time for all of our communities during the lockdown, but it’s important to stay fit and healthy by keeping active and looking after our health, as this is a blessing from Allah. And, if you're already fit and active, then there's no reason why you shouldn't join in and compete with friends and family.

So, join the East London Mosque for this challenge from wherever you are, get involved with your friends and family, and also help fundraise at the same time.

Staying in contact with loved ones in hospital

The Royal London Hospital has launched a new and improved family contact centre, to offer increased support to families who have a loved one in hospital.  The centre is expanding to cover all wards across the hospital, with a larger multi-disciplinary team including clinical leads and chaplains, and a central phone line and email contact.

The family contact centre will be a key point of contact for families, to help ensure they are supported and updated about their relatives’ condition and wellbeing.

The centre can speak with the clinical team about concerns and questions, help arrange end of life visits, language support, dropping off items and food, spiritual and religious support, booking virtual visits and sending photos and messages to loved ones.

The Family Contact Centre aims to provide proactive updates to families every 48 hours, but a named contact person or Next of Kin can also get in contact with the team.

  • Email [email protected] (please provide the patient’s name, DOB, MRN if available and your contact number)
  • Phone 020 3594 2040 (the phone line is open 9am to 5pm, proactive updates will be provided between 2pm–5pm)
  • Open 7 days a week.

Please visit the Barts NHS Trust website for full details.
