Cyclists who took part in the mosque’s successful ‘Ride 4 Your Mosque’ event for a second year running have fundraised a total of £8,156

The event held on Saturday 29th April 2017 saw 17 eager cyclists take up the challenge of cycling 36 miles from East London Mosque to Box Hill, Surrey.

Each cyclist had a fundraising target of £300, however one individual, Nozimul Islam exceeded this by raising over £1,722.00. Nozimul was declared the top fundraiser and gifted with an Umrah ticket for his efforts.

The top fundraisers were as follows:

  1. Nozimul Islam £1,722
  2. Ansar Miah £1,260
  3. Sinan Mir £500

On the day, 2 teams set off from the Mosque each trying to complete the course in the shortest time. The route took riders through scenic parts of London, with them stopping for a refreshment break at Richmond Park. There were many challenges along the way, with leg cramps and exhaustion! However, they all cycled on to victory, with group one completing the course in an amazing two and a half hours.

Hope & Knowledge, a local charity that helps out with many charitable projects, assisted the Ride 4 Your Mosque event on the day, helped organise training sessions and provided volunteers.

Senior Fundraising Officer for the Mosque, Tozommul Ali said: "This event was something different and followed on from last year’s success, it definitely promoted a healthier life style as well as fundraising for the mosque. All the cyclists that took part were full of incredible enthusiasm. I would like to thank everyone for sponsoring the cyclists. This would not have been possible without the hard work and sacrifice of the cyclist and our volunteers."

The Mosque hopes to use the funds raised to help alleviate its current debt of over £3m. Most of this debt is from the capital building costs for the Maryam Centre and the purchase of the Synagogue building.

We take this opportunity to thank our sponsors: Muslim Hands, Go Hajji by Air Express and KHF Mile End.
