Purpose of the role

The East London Mosque Archives is seeking enthusiastic group of volunteers to help us develop an upcoming new exhibition about the history and establishment of the East London Mosque. As a volunteer you will mainly research content for the exhibition using our existing archive collections and identify relevant archives about the Mosque held elsewhere. Full training will be given on how to use finding aids and handle archives.


Volunteers should have:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Interest in local history.


We are looking for volunteers who are willing to commit themselves to 1 day per week for a minimum period of 3 consecutive months. Hours of volunteering will be from 10:00am-5:00pm. This role is based at the Mosque’s complex, Maryam Centre, 45 Fieldgate Street, London, E1 1DU. We will reimburse reasonable volunteer travel expenses where possible.
