22 September 2020 – The Government has announced new measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, emphasising we all must work together to minimise the spread of the virus.

From Thursday 24 September 2020, the East London Mosque is tightening its restrictions further, as we take the safety and wellbeing of our congregation, staff, volunteers and other user groups to be of paramount importance.

  1. Everyone attending prayers will have to wear a mask covering the mouth and nose, with no exceptions; those who for any reason cannot wear a mask should pray at home or in their workplace.
  2. Our ablution and toilet areas will be closed.
  3. The doors will only be opened 20 minutes prior to the Jama’ah time and everyone must leave the masjid within 10 mins after the Jama’ah, as we must minimise the time Mussalis spend inside the masjid in order to minimise risk to others.
  4. Our doors will be closed once the Imam goes to ruku‘ on the last rak‘ah of the given Salah
    1. For Fajr: 2nd rak‘ah
    2. For Zuhr / Asr / Isha: 4th rak‘ah
    3. For Maghrib: 3rd rak‘ah
  5. For Jumuah (Friday prayer), we will only open the mosque 45 mins before the Khutbah, everyone must leave within 10 mins of the Jama’ah.
  6. Worshippers must bring their own prayer mat and shoe bag.
  7. Those who are 70 years plus and / or have underlying health issues must NOT come to the mosque for their own wellbeing.
  8. Children under the age of 12 will not be permitted to come to the masjid for prayers.

We will be keeping a close eye on the Government’s advice, and will take actions in the best interests of our congregation, staff, volunteers and, more broadly, our community.
