The East London Mosque is calling for three missing east London schoolgirls, believed to be in Turkey, to return as soon as possible to the UK.

The mosque, along with others in Tower Hamlets and at the behest of the Metropolitan Police, is appealing for information and assistance as to the whereabouts of Shamima Begum, 15; Kadiza Sultana, 16; and Amira Abase, 15.

Dilowar Khan, executive director at the mosque, made an appeal to worshippers at this afternoon’s Friday (Jumu’ah) prayers.

“We are all extremely concerned about the fate of these young women, and would ask anyone who can assist with their safe return to call the police straight away,” said Mr Khan. The families of the missing schoolgirls have also made emotional pleas for their return (and these statements can be found below).

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Metropolitan Police on 0800 789 321.
