Tuesday 18th October 2008

East London Mosque and London Muslim Centre have been named 2008 Community of the Year Award by community organisation London Citizens.

They have been awarded for their sustained participation in London Citizens initiatives over the past year including taking over 100 delegates to the recent TELCO Annual Assembly, helping to develop the relationship between The Communities Against Drugs and Alcohol Abuse (CADAA) and London Citizens and representing TELCO at an international conference in Chicago.

Director Dilowar Hussain Khan commented, “It is a great honour to be recognised by London Citizens. They are an organisation which the mosque has a great affiliation with as we were one of the founding members of TELCO. We have worked with TELCO for over a decade on many different initiatives which have improved our community. I hope that this relationship will continue to be of benefit to the communities that we both serve.”

They will receive the award at London Citizens 7th AGM and Annual Awards Ceremony to be held in December.
