East London Mosque officially joins MINAB

Thursday 5th March 2009

East London Mosque has become one of the first official members of the Mosque and Imams National Advisory Board (MINAB) in a ceremony of registration yesterday at the London Muslim Centre.

The Mosque has been part of consultation sessions run by MINAB which took place across the country, throughout last year.

MINAB works with mosques around the UK and aims to be a community led advisory body which will facilitate good practice in the governance of Mosques and improvement in the performance of Imams.

Secretary of the Mosque Ayub Khan commented, "We are very pleased to be one of the first mosques to officially join the MINAB. We hope, as an independent advisory body, it contributes positively towards the facilitation of good practices in the governance of mosques around the country."

Notes for Editors

MINAB is an independent body, non-sectarian in its outlook, representing the diversity of Islam with no role in matters of theology and broad based with an accountable system of representation. It is community conceived, community driven and community led initiative. Its founders are four national Muslim organisations - the Al-Khoei Foundation, British Muslim Form, Muslim association of Britain and the Muslim Council of Britain. It is an advisory body to facilitate self regulation of its membership to improve governance and provision of services.
