We are appalled to learn about the horrific bombing yesterday at the compound of the Prophet’s Mosque, Masjid al-Nabawi, in Al-Madina, which claimed the lives of four people and several more injured. The Prophet's Mosque is an inviolable sacred site revered by Muslims around the world.

In these last days of Ramadan this depraved attack has shocked the Muslim community in London and across the world. We consider this assault on Islam’s second holiest place as an attack on Islam itself.

The month of Ramadan is a peaceful time for reflection and spiritual renewal for Muslims across the globe. However, there have been a spate of attacks in several Muslim countries this month, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

The Prophet, God’s peace and blessings upon him, is reported to have said, “Whoever frightens the people of Al-Madina has the damnation of God, the angels, and all of humanity.” (Al-Nasa'i, Sunan; Ahmad, Musnad)
