It’s been just over a week since our closure, which was reported by the BBC, 5Pillars, and the East London Advertiser. Since then, many other mosques across the country have also made the decision to close.

Since our closure, the COVID-19 situation has worsened. Here at the East London Mosque, we will do our level best to support our community through this difficult time, inshā’Allāh.

Bring the spirit of the Masjid to your home

In such a time where the mosques are closed, you can still potentially attain the reward of a jamā’ah! How so? Get your family together and pray in congregation!

Here are some tips on how you can keep the spirit of the Masjid alive in your house!

  1. Make a designated area for congregational prayer (jamā’ah) – lay down mussalahs and maybe put some copies of the Qur’ān nearby. Decorate to your whim, a fun project to keep the kids busy!
  2. Agree set times for each jamā’ah! Put the allocated times on the fridge so all the family members know.
  3. Have an appointed Imam and Mu’adhin – you can have one person in each role, or you can switch roles for different jamā’ah!
  4. Do a weekly Friday reminder before Zuhr! Appoint one person each week to give a researched Islamic reminder to the whole family – everyone can get involved, young or old.

Funeral services

Sadly, the funeral service is very busy coping with higher levels of bereavements, including COVID-19 cases, which are handled at the temporary mortuary that was created following the public appeal during the first lockdown.

Have you written your will?

The Prophet said, “It is not permissible for any Muslim who has something to will to stay for two nights without having his last will and testament written and kept ready with him.” [Bukhari].

Almost all of us know someone, whether a near or distant family member, friend or neighbour, who has passed away because of the pandemic. In such testing times, we as Muslims should be prepared at any time to meet our Lord.

Contact the East London Mosque to get help writing your will. This service is available to everyone regardless of their state of health. So why not take the first step today? There’s no commitment and no obligation, just the chance to find out more.

Our will writing service is available via telephone consultation – email [email protected]
