The East London Mosque has recently purchased the synagogue building adjacent to it, which was originally founded in 1899 and rebuilt in 1950 following World War II damage, and has been unused since 2009.

The Open Day is an opportunity for members of the public to drop in and look around this unique building in its original historical setting prior to commencement of refurbishment. The afternoon includes short talks on ELM’s outreach work and the Great Synagogue’s history.

Artefacts will also be on display, and members of the East London Mosque Archive’s steering group and archivists and historians at hand to answer questions.
