Cyclists who took part in the mosque’s successful ‘Ride 4 Your Mosque’ event have fundraised a total of £10,922.90.

The event held on Sunday 20th March saw 26 eager cyclists take up the challenge of cycling 35 miles from Windsor Castle to the East London Mosque.

Each cyclist had a fundraising target of £200, however one individual, Nozimul Islam exceeded this by raising over £1,045. Nozimul was declared the top fundraiser and gifted an iPad for his efforts.

The top fundraisers were as follows:

  • Nozimul Islam £1,045
  • Rofikul Islam £586
  • Mohammad Rashed Nizam £561

On the day, 3 teams set off from Windsor Castle each trying to complete the course in the shortest time. The route took riders through scenic parts of London, with them stopping for a lunchbreak at Richmond Park. There were many challenges along the way, with tire punctures, leg cramps and exhaustion! However, they all cycled onto victory, with group one completing the course in an amazing two hours.

Hope & Knowledge, a local charity that helps out with many charitable projects, assisted the Ride 4 Your Mosque event on the day, helped organise training sessions and volunteers.

Senior Fundraising Officer for the Mosque, Tozommul Ali said: "This event was something different and definitely promoted a healthier life style. All the cyclists that took part were full of incredible enthusiasm. I would like to thank everyone for sponsoring the cyclists. This would not have been possible without the hard work and sacrifice of our volunteers."

The Mosque hopes to use the funds raised to help alleviate its current debt of £4m. Most of this debt is from the capital building costs for the Maryam Centre and the purchase of the Synagogue building.

We take this opportunity to thank our sponsor Muslim Aid.
