25 June 2022 - Riders taking part in the annual Ride 4 Your Mosque challenge have completed the course today, which set off from a gloriously sunny day in Cambridge to the East London Mosque.

This mini-cycling marathon covered 55 miles, with four groups covering veterans and new riders, totalling 37. The first group took 5hrs to complete the ride with regular pitstops.

Azad Ali, Ride 4 Your Mosque Route Coordinator said,

The Cambridge to London route was challenging for many riders today, especially the first-timers. Alhamdullilah, we carefully planned the route and logistics to ensure everybody could complete the journey safely with plenty of break points to recover.

Tozommul Ali, Fundraising Manager for the East London Mosque, said,

Our riders have raised over £10k for the Mosque through sponsorship. This is an incredible fundraising effort from our participants this year. All the cyclists that took part were full of incredible enthusiasm. I would like to thank everyone for sponsoring the cyclists. This would not have been possible without the hard work and sacrifice of the cyclist and our staff and volunteers

A ceremony was held at the end of the ride, with every rider awarded personalised certificates and custom-made medals, specially made for this event for their participation. Top fundraiser will be awarded with a prize towards the end of the week after collecting the fundraising totals.

Dilowar Khan, Director of the Mosque, said,

Ride 4 Your Mosque is part of our annual activities to bring together members of our community while at the same time promoting healthy eating and fitness. We hope to grow this annual event so that more people can participate in the future, insha’Allah.

Speaking to riders at the closing ceremony, Ayub Khan, Chairman of the East London Mosque, said

I would like to sincerely thank everyone that took part in this year’s Ride 4 Your Mosque. The commitment shown by riders today is remarkable, especially riding long-distance on such a warm summer’s day. By supporting the Mosque, we are able to extend support to others in our community and even abroad in times of need and crisis. May Allah accept all of our efforts.

We would like to extend a special ‘thank you’ to our sponsor: LaunchGood, and supported by Al Imaan Cycling Club (AICC) & Horizon Cycling Club (HCC), and to all the dedicated staff and volunteers who made this wonderful event possible.

Where will your donations go?

We cannot continue our good work without the support of our generous donors globally. Because of your donations, the Mosque and Centre can provide projects and services that benefit so many Muslims and indeed wider society.

Every penny donated to the East London Mosque and London Muslim Centre will further our vision and mission and lead the Muslim community in the UK through words and actions. We will use your donations to help grow and maintain our services and projects and support the communities we serve. There is nothing better than donating to this House of Allah, which continues to do so much good in the community and is a beacon for others to follow in the UK.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “Allah said: ‘Spend, O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you.”
