The East London Mosque & London Muslim Centre, together with Justice for Rohingya Minority (JFRM), held a fundraising event at the LMC on Tuesday 19 June 2018, raising over £100,000 in commitments.

It coincided with a new book release, The Rohingya crisis: a people facing extinction, authored by former chairman of the East London Mosque, Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari.

Stressing the importance of the legal work by JFRM in pursuing perpetrators of genocide in Myanmar, several prominent guest speakers addressed the topic from different angles, including Rushanara Ali, MP for Bethnal Green and Bow; Co-chair, APPG on Democracy in Burma; Revd. Bonnie Evans-Hills, Church of England; and campaigner for the United Nations on anti-genocide and conflict-resolution; Dr Thomas MacManus, Research Fellow at the International State Crime Initiative, Queen Mary University; Eng. Mohammed Siddique Basu, From the Rakhine State of Burma and founder of the Modern Rohingya Language Writing System; Matthew Jury, Managing and a Founding Partner of McCue & Partners who are advising JFRM; and Nozmul Hussain, CEO of the East London Mosque & London Muslim Centre.
