News & Islam News Vaccinations and fasting Alhamdulillah, we have safe and effective vaccines that protect us against COVID-19. Vaccination is consistent with the Shari‘ah; the permissibility of taking vaccines and medicine, to repel disease or prevent an expected one, is a matter of consensus amongst the people of knowledge. Those who will observe the fast this Ramadan, rest assured the vast majority of scholars say it is permissible to take the vaccine whilst fasting. There may be mild side effects, such as a sore arm or headache, but these should only last a couple of days at most, insha’Allah. It is also permissible to be tested for COVID-19 when fasting.
