Alhamdulillah. All praise is due to Allah. He is the One who created life and death to test which of us is best in deeds. He is the One who warned us about a Day when truth will stand clear and every soul will face what it earned. That Day is real. And it is coming.

In this week’s khutbah, I wanted to share reminders about that Day. The Day of Judgement. The Day when the skies will split. The earth will crack. The angels will descend. And every human being will rise from their grave.

Allah tells us:

It is drawing near. But most people are unprepared. We plan for our careers, our families, our retirement. But how many of us plan for the Hereafter?

On that Day, the unseen will become seen. The angel Jibra’il will appear in his full form. The Prophet ﷺ said he has 600 wings. If just one wing were to open, it would cover the entire horizon. The people will see him. They will see the angels in rows. They will not speak unless Allah permits them.

Allah says:

On that Day, there will be no time to act. No time to do one more good deed. No time to make one more sajdah. It will be the Day of Judgement, not the day of action.

People will fall into two categories. The first are those who ignored the signs. Who disobeyed. Who delayed their repentance. Their hands and feet will be shackled. They will be thrown into Hell like sticks into fire. They will regret. But it will be too late.

They will cry out:

The second group are the believers. Those who lived their lives in obedience. Those who prayed, fasted, and stayed away from sin. They will rise with joy. They will be eager to meet their Lord. They believed in His promises. They followed His commands.

For them, Allah has prepared a place like no other. The Prophet ﷺ said that in Jannah you will live forever. There is no death. You will stay young. No ageing. You will be healthy. No sickness or pain. You will be at peace. No sadness or hate.

In Jannah, everything you desire will be there. No jealousy. No grudges. Only love and harmony. It is the reward for those who prepared.

But we cannot be complacent. We must guard ourselves from four dangers:

  • Our own souls. If we don’t take control of our desires, they will take control of us.
  • Bad companions. One wrong friend can drag you away from Allah.
  • This dunya. It looks beautiful, but it is a test. It is temporary.
  • Shaytan. He whispers. He misleads. And sometimes we obey him more than we obey Allah.

So we must be vigilant. We must keep checking ourselves. How is my salah? How is my heart? Am I ready to meet Allah?

The Prophet ﷺ said:

He who desires to be rescued from the fire of Hell and to enter Jannah, should die in a state of complete belief in Allah and the Last Day, and should do unto others what he wishes to be done unto him.

Simple. But powerful. Keep your belief strong. Treat people well. And prepare for the meeting with Allah.

After this Jumu‘ah, we will pray janazah over those who were with us just days ago. Tomorrow, it could be us. Let us not be from the regretful. Let us be from the grateful.

O Allah, make us from the people of Jannah. Make us firm in faith. Save us from heedlessness. Forgive our sins, and let our final words be “la ilaha illallah.”

Ameen.
