28 June 2025

We’re incredibly proud to share a historic moment for Al Mizan School and London East Academy: the completion of the memorisation of the Qur’an by our first female student. Safiya Islam, a Year 6 pupil at Al Mizan School, recently completed her final recitation in front of classmates, teachers, parents, and her Qur’an instructors. Her achievement marks the end of a remarkable journey and the culmination of years of dedication, perseverance, and hard work.

Safiya’s accomplishment stands out as a truly memorable moment in our school’s history. As she completed her final recitation, Safiya stood before her Year 6 classmates, the pupils of Al Mizan School, her teachers, and parents – all present to support her and share in the moment. Upon completing her final recitation, her Qur’an teachers made du‘a and shared a few words – encouraging those present and asking Allah to bless Safiya and all students striving to memorise the Qur’an.

Marking the end of her incredible journey, Safiya said:

Assalamu ‘alaikum,

My name is Safiya Islam and I am 10 years old.

I have recently become Haafidha Alhamdulillah. I completed the Qur’an on Friday 2 May 2025. Alhamdulillah I finished the Qur’an within 5–6 years. My biggest motivation was my parents and teachers as they kept me going.

My biggest advice to others out there around the world is to never give up no matter what the struggle is. Jazakullahu khairan.

Speaking about Safiya’s remarkable progress, her teacher said:

Assalamu ‘alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakaatuh,

Alhamdulillah, as Safiya’s teacher, it has been a blessing and an honour to witness Safiya’s Hifdh journey from her early years in school to her recent completion in Year 6. Safiya began her memorisation in Year 3, and over the years, she showed quiet dedication, discipline, and sincerity that truly set her apart. Her journey is a testament to what steady effort and a strong connection to the Qur’an can achieve

She is a shining example of how sincerity and consistent effort – without seeking recognition – lead to great success, by the will of Allah. Allah (SWT) reminds us:

Safiya’s achievement is a reflection of the strength and spirit of our dedicated Hifdh programme, which runs throughout both our primary and secondary schools. Alhamdulillah, over the years, Al Mizan School and London East Academy have supported many young students in becoming Huffadh – and we remain committed to helping every learner connect with the Qur’an by memorising it, understanding its meaning, and striving to live by its guidance.

To celebrate this milestone, we’re organising a special event at the East London Mosque. The gathering, which will take place after the Friday Jumuʿah prayer (ladies only), will bring together our female students, staff, parents, and colleagues from the Mosque. Insha’Allah, it will be a meaningful occasion, featuring Qur’anic recitations, reflections, guest speakers, and a presentation of an award and gift to Safiya, as we do for all our students who complete their Hifdh.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Safiya, her parents, and her teachers. May her journey bring Barakah and serve as an inspiration to others. And may all our students continue to grow in their love for the Qur’an, reciting it, memorising it, reflecting on its meaning, and striving to live by its teachings.

Join us in celebrating this proud moment. Sisters from the ELM congregation are warmly invited to celebrate the momentous occasions right after Jumuʿah on Friday, 11th July.

May Allah accept from all those involved.
