The East London Mosque, in partnership with Islamic Relief UK, completed its Summer Food Drive 2025 this week, distributing vital aid to families and individuals impacted by the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

The joint initiative was set up to offer practical support to those facing food insecurity and financial pressure, while also helping families celebrate Eid al-Adha. Through this effort, 100 food packs were provided to food bank users, 100 food parcels and Qurbani meat were distributed to refugee families, and 100 Eid gifts were given to refugee children.

Distribution followed a volunteer-led preparation session at the mosque, where essential dry food items were packed. The initiative was made possible by the dedication and hard work of volunteers, whose generosity and commitment played a crucial role in reaching those in need.

People across the country are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis, and East London is no exception. According to research conducted with the University of East London, nearly half (49%) of those relying on Islamic Relief UK’s local partners are not even in the lowest income bracket. This is a clear sign that the crisis is no longer confined to the poorest households but is now affecting a much broader section of society.

Junaid Ahmed, CEO of East London Mosque, said:

The cost-of-living crisis continues to hit families hard, and we are seeing the effects every day in our community. Through this initiative, we wanted to provide some relief and ensure that those who are struggling are not forgotten during this important time.

It’s not just about food – it’s about compassion, solidarity, and letting people know they are not alone. We’re grateful to our volunteers and to Islamic Relief UK for working alongside us to make this possible.

This food drive is part of a broader effort by East London Mosque to support local residents experiencing hardship, offering not just charity but hope, respect, and care.
