East London Mosque, in partnership with Islamic Relief UK, distributed Qurbani meat to refugee families, asylum seekers and vulnerable residents through its Refugee Community Hub at the London Muslim Centre.

The initiative helped ensure that some of the most in need in our community were able to share in the blessings of Qurbani during Eid al-Adha. With the ongoing cost-of-living crisis placing increasing pressure on households, many families are finding it difficult to afford meat and other essential groceries.

Junaid Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of East London Mosque Trust, said:

“Qurbani is a beautiful expression of sacrifice, compassion and care for others. At a time when many families are struggling with the cost of food and basic essentials, this distribution is a meaningful way to ensure that those most in need can share in the blessings of Eid.”

“We are deeply grateful to Islamic Relief UK for their continued support and partnership. Their commitment enables us to reach refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable families with dignity, warmth and practical help. This is the spirit of community service that East London Mosque is proud to uphold.”

Sufia Alam, Head of Programmes and Maryam Centre, said:

“For many refugee families and vulnerable residents, being able to access fresh meat is not something they can take for granted, especially during the cost-of-living crisis. This Qurbani distribution is about sharing the blessings of Eid with dignity, compassion and care, and ensuring that those most in need feel seen, supported and valued by their community.”

East London Mosque’s Refugee Community Hub provides ongoing practical support to refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants, including food assistance, clothing support, English classes, signposting and community-based activities.

The Qurbani distribution reflects the Mosque’s mission to serve, educate and inspire through faith and action, and its commitment to supporting those facing hardship with compassion, dignity and care.
