ELMT Holds 67th Annual General Meeting 14 July 2026The East London Mosque Trust (ELMT) held its 67th Annual General Meeting on Saturday 11 July, bringing together members, trustees, senior leaders and staff to reflect on the organisation’s work during the 2025–26 reporting period and consider the priorities ahead. Chairman Dr Abdul-Hayee Murshad and Chief Executive Officer Junaid Ahmed presented an overview of the Trust’s key activities and achievements. Lead staff from across the organisation also updated the meeting on the progress of services in religious education, schools, women’s and youth provision, support for new Muslims, social welfare, community engagement, communications and organisational development. The meeting heard how ELMT continued to serve, educate and inspire through a broad range of programmes. Highlights included strong educational outcomes, the continued development of the Discover One New Muslim Hub, expanded youth and women’s services, support for refugees and older people, health and environmental initiatives, and deeper engagement with civic, faith and community partners. In his address, Dr Murshad reflected on the increasingly challenging environment facing Muslim communities across Britain. He spoke of growing hostility in public rhetoric and actions towards Muslims and ethnic minorities, and stressed that, in this climate, the work of the Mosque is more important than ever. He reaffirmed ELMT’s commitment to engaging and building partnerships across civil society, helping to strengthen understanding, protect dignity and ensure that our communities and the country as a whole can continue to prosper despite the challenges ahead. The CEO provided an update on the implementation of ELMT Strategy 2030, explaining how its vision and strategic priorities are being embedded throughout the organisation. Work is continuing to streamline adoption across departments, strengthen accountability and ensure that strategic objectives are translated into clear workplans, effective services and measurable outcomes. The AGM concluded with appreciation for the dedication of ELMT’s trustees, members, staff, volunteers, congregation and supporters. Their continued commitment enables the Trust to respond to changing community needs while remaining firmly rooted in faith, service and excellence. Manage Cookie Preferences
