News & Islam News ELM Hosts 15th Huffaz Graduation Ceremony 4 February 2026 The East London Mosque hosted its annual Huffaz Graduation Ceremony last week, recognising the achievements of students from London East Academy and Al-Mizan School. Marking its fourteenth Huffaz Graduation Ceremony, seven students were formally recognised for completing the memorisation of the entire Qur’an, while one student graduated after completing a full revision cycle, demonstrating an exceptional level of accuracy, consistency, and perseverance in consolidating their memorisation. A significant milestone was marked with the graduation of Al-Mizan School’s first female Hafizah, an achievement acknowledged during the ceremony and warmly received by families, staff, and attendees. Her accomplishment represents an important moment for the school and serves as an inspiration to younger girls embarking on their own Hifz journeys Hosted by the Head Boy and Deputy Head Boy, the ceremony included Qur’anic recitations by the students from different parts of the Qur’an. The programme also featured a video presentation in which the new graduates reflected on their memorisation journeys, the challenges they encountered, and their future aspirations. This was followed by further recitations and the presentation of awards to the graduates. Headteacher Anamul Khan congratulated the graduates and acknowledged the collective effort behind their success, recognising the students, teachers, parents, the Mosque, and the wider community for their sustained support. Addressing the graduates, he reminded them that “revision is not the end of your journey with the Qur’an, it is the beginning,” and encouraged them to live by what they have memorised. The Chief Executive Officer of the East London Mosque, Junaid Ahmed, congratulated the graduates and their parents, describing the occasion as “the best of gatherings, because this is the gathering of the Qur’an.” He reminded students that memorisation is the beginning of a lifelong journey with the Qur’an and urged them to translate what they have memorised into character, noting that the Prophet ﷺ said he was sent to perfect good character. The evening concluded with a reminder that these Huffaz are part of a longstanding tradition of preserving the Qur’an through memorisation, with responsibilities that extend beyond recitation to character, conduct and service to others.
