The East London Mosque (ELM) held its much-anticipated event, Qur’an: A Path to Paradise, on Wednesday evening, drawing a large crowd for an inspiring night of Qur’anic recitation, spiritual reflection, and community fundraising ahead of Ramadan.

The event was a moving reminder of the power of the Qur’an to uplift hearts and bring people together in preparation for the blessed month. Imam Syed Anisul Haque reflected:

There was a strong sense of togetherness as people prepared their hearts and minds for Ramadan.

“This was a special evening for us at ELM,” said Imam Syed Anisul Haque, who hosted the event with warmth and encouragement. “Bringing so many talented reciters together in one space was a first, and the audience truly appreciated it. There was a strong sense of togetherness as people prepared their hearts and minds for Ramadan.”

The event also saw an incredible show of generosity, with many attendees stepping forward to support the mosque’s Ramadan campaign. “It was humbling to see such kindness,” Imam Anis added.

As part of the night’s proceedings, ELM CEO Junaid Ahmed addressed the audience, reflecting on the mosque’s journey and upcoming developments.

“We are on the verge of something special,” he told the gathering. “With our Phase 3 expansion nearing completion, we will be opening two brand-new halls just in time for Ramadan. This mosque has always been built by the people, for the people – and now, we’re asking our community to take on a new role as Khadims, as guardians of this blessed institution.”

Ahmed was keen to stress the significance of the new ELM Be A Khadim campaign, which calls on 1,000 supporters to help sustain the mosque’s vital work. With Ramadan approaching, this initiative remains central to ELM’s plans for the months ahead and beyond.

The initiative encourages worshippers and community members to take ownership of the mosque’s future by pledging ongoing support, whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word about the mosque’s services.

In addition to the powerful recitations and motivational reminders, attendees were treated to a delicious three-course meal, fostering a sense of community and hospitality that defines the ELM’s approach to Ramadan preparations.
